The internet has enabled ‘social networking’ – communities of people with shared interests and activities to become connected. Social networking includes an array of online networks used to communicate and share information including Facebook, YouTube (video), Second Life (3D online digital world), blogging, podcasting, and wikis (collaborative websites). Social networking can help organisations, businesses and educational establishments to administrate, manage and back-up activity, as well as offer a new platform for communication, content delivery and distribution.
Outline:
This event brings together participants, producers and theorists to discuss how involvement in social networking affects organisation and delivery, and will raise awareness and stimulate discussion on social networking within the creative industries. The seminar is part of the ICT Forum Wales 2007 programme from 12 to 24 November across Wales. Details of North and South Wales events can be found at http://www.ictforumwales.com/events.php .
The event will also introduce the SPLICE project which aims to introduce and encourage participants to join SPLICE’s social network towards peer exchange and the management, marketing, delivery and distribution of work.
